Sephora by OPI Sugarplum Fairies Gone Wild

Part 2 of my Christmas nails involved glitter (Part 1 was OPI Ink.). I wanted pretty, blingy nails, without necesarily screaming Christmas. Since my top was purple, I decided my nails could be too. I had just ordered Sugarplum Fairies Gone Wild from Sephora and this was the perfect opportunity to try it out, the end result was pure love.

OPI Ink.

I know I'm just so horrible at posting, but I take pictures of everything I swear! So now here I am backtracking almost a week late but this is part 1 of what I had on my nails over this last weekend for Christmas. I have so many untrieds it's ridiculous, this being one of them. Can you believe I've never swatched my OPI Ink.? Amazing I know. I needed a nice base for my glitter bomb and this was perfect.

I'm a sucker for purple, I'd say it's the color that I have most of in my polish collection, this color is a perfect reason why.

OPI Nicki Minaj Swatches (Picture Heavy)

I was chatting with a friend last night when she says, "OPI Nicki Minaj is on ebay!". It was last at night so as soon as I woke up this morning I called one of my supply shops and sure enough, it was in. I made the 1 hour drive and picked up the collection!

This collection consists of 5 new colors and a new shatter shade. There are 3 cremes and 2 glitters. My honest opinion is that besides the 2 glitters, I'm unimpressed, I expected more, especially from OPI. The promo pictures as they are most of the time were inaccurate on the glitters. The first one even almost depicted Pink Friday as a holo! The cremes are uninspired, they almost reminded me of the Shrek colors and they were definitely not the one coat cremes I thought they'd be.

Here's a picture of the display that I got along with 2 of each color in the collection.

Moving on to the individual colors I'll start with the cremes. The first is the lime green, "Did it On 'Em", when I saw this it immediately reminded me of "Fiercely Fiona" from the Shrek collection. Unfortunately though, I can't compare since I don't have that color myself, it looks as though it might be a middle between that and "Who the Shrek Are You?". The following pictures are with 2 coats.

Next up is "Pink Friday", a light creme pink. I don't own anything like it but that's not saying much because I don't own many pinks, seems like there might already be colors like this one out there though. This is again with 2 coats.

"Fly" is an aqua blue that is showing a little greener in these pictures, the last picture taken outdoors captured the color accurately. When I saw this I expected it to be extremely creamy but again this took 2 coats as it's definitely too sheer with one. Even with the 2 you could still detect the whites of my nails so for some it might possibly be a 3 coater.

Finally off to something a little more different. "Metallic 4 Life" was the color I was most looking forward to from this collection and I was kind of dissapointed. Although it is quite pretty it just wasn't what I expected. The promotional shots are always so misleading and to me it just looked different.  This has a sheer black base with silver glitter and multi sized silver hexagon glitter. It applied well and covered surprisingly good in 2 coats.

"Save Me" came out of the sidelines for me, again, the promo pictures made me imagine something completely different and this was an extremely pleasant surprise. This is definitely more of a layering polish but I just love it! It's silver glitter with holographic bar glitter and I don't have anything like it. Here it is in 3 coats.

This collection also came out with a new shatter color. "Super Bass Shatter", it's a magenta purple that well, shatters. I'm personally kind of over the crackle thing but I know there will be people loving this. I layered it over "Save Me" and it might not have been the best choice to show off the effect but it's the last color I tried on.

Overall I love Save Me and I really like Metallic 4 Life, besides that, yes the colors are nice, but they were nothing I absolutely need in my collection.

Winter Icicle Nails

For my nails today I wanted something very wintery without necessarily using snowflake stamping (even though I know I'll do some snowflake nails down the road) it just wasn't what I was feeling today. My eyes fell on a few polishes and I decided to incorporate them together to create today's design.

I started off with China Glaze's Sea Spray then added Lorelei's Tiara to the tips of my pinky, middle, and pointer fingers. On my accent nail I layered China Glaze's Luna on top of the Sea Spray and did a rhinestone star-ish design.

I absolutely fell in love with this. I feel like it's so simple yet elegant.

My First Christmas Manicure

I decided to do my first Christmas manicure last night, and although it's not very original I just had to do it.

This time last year, a co-worker took me to get a mani/pedi for my birthday. At the time, I knew NOTHING of nail art or nail polish since I didn't start until early this year. Well, I wanted something festive and when the lady asked me what I wanted I said "candy cane french tip". Needless to say she looked at me with the strangest, most confused look. I repeated and told her, "diagonal white stripes, like candy canes." She continues to look at me and says, "Zebra?". Me: "No, candy canes, just some stripes like this" as I make a diagonal gesture on my nails. She said ok and I walked out of there with some funky horizontal nails :/

Anyway, because of that I wanted to make what I wanted at that time and here it is!

I started off with Milani's Ready to Wear Red, then 1 coat of China Glaze's Ring In The Red, used my white striper polish for the stripes, and finished off the silver line with China Glaze's Cheers To You.

And just in case you'd like to watch, here's the tutorial video :)

Doomed Sky (Franken Post)

Ever since I got my suspension base from TKB I've been in a polish making mood. Today is a perfect example. I have for you, Doomed Sky, don't ask me why, it just popped into my head. I wish I would have measured all I used but I really didn't expect this to turn into anything I liked so I just mixed away. The end result however, I LOVE! I'm a sucker for holos, sucker for dark colors, and a sucker for charcoal in general. Mix these together? You've got this baby....

I started off with a clear base and I added a couple of scoops or some holographic glitter that I got at a nail supply shop. I followed with a generous scoop of Spectra Flair and ended it with some black and voila! I didn't want it too dark as I already have revvvolution and I wasn't trying to dupe it so it's not quite a charcoal holo. I also made this trying to answer the question in my head of, "What happens when you mix linear and scattered holo?".

Now for the picture bomb...

The following are under a lamp, I was trying to figure out the angles to see what would show
off the holo the best, the last picture was purposely blurred to show the holo.

I ended up discovering that it photographed the holo best away from direct light....

Soooooo, what do you think?
