Back from the dead (Updated with pictures)

It seems like ages ago that I was here last. Life has changed, a lot. Most of you don't know, but I've always been a dog lover. It has been my dream to one day be financially stable enough to just be able to take in strays and rescue dogs full time. Well, recently, I have taken a step towards that dream. A few months back I joined a local rescue group and became a foster mom to a 6 week old baby that was going to be put down because he was "unadoptable" (any pup under 8 weeks old is unadoptable). Basically, if no one showed up by end of business day, he was going to be put to sleep. I couldn't let it happen. I rushed to the pound as soon as I left work and there he was, this helpless but full of life, 6 week old beautiful brindle pitbull. I decided to name him Max.

Max 4/17/14, the day we brought him home.

And so it began, we became foster parents. Started taking him to adoption shows and before we knew it, little Max was adopted, it was bittersweet.

Before long we took in another. He was a 4 month old chocolate pit mix. I named him Pretzel. He was the goofiest, most loving baby. I feel in love with him and he went on to his home after just 3 weeks.

                                                                      Pretzel 6/16/14

While we still had Pretzel, we took in a miniature poodle who was on her last day. She was a matted mess but I saw love in her fearful eyes. I took her home and shaved her down, it was only then that I realized, she was pregnant!

Millie's intake picture, and her comfy on my bed 4 weeks later, shortly before giving birth.

So here I am now, with my two own dogs (Ginger and Layla), and my fosters: Zeus, a brindle bull terrier mix, Gus Gus, a pitty lab mix, Millie, the fearful poodle from that day, and her two babies, who I'm currently calling Cosmo and Mimi.

During this journey I've come to discover just how bad shelters and dogs have it here. I live in San Bernardino, CA which has 2 of the deadliest shelters in California and the US. I decided I needed to do something, anything, I felt like what I was doing wasn't enough. So, I took my love of crafts and put it to use.

I am selling hand made doggy ties, doggy bows, and hair bows. Half of all the proceeds from every sale will go directly to helping San Bernardino & Devore shelter dogs in need. These two shelters have some of the highest kill rates in California and the US. Most dogs rescued are on "euth list".

We are also always in need of leashes, collars, toys, crates, food, etc. If you'd like to mail a donation, please message me.

Now, as far as nail polish goes, it's still a love and hobby of mine, and I am coming back, I'm just taking my time and taking it slowly because it's taken the backburner as far as priority. When I do come back, you bet I'm going to use this new chapter of my life as inspiration.

Thanks to anyone that read. Love you all,

Sandy

From the Vault Photo Spam

She's alive! It feels like it's been forever and a day since I've blogged (probably because it has) but here I am. I haven't stopped painting my nails and making polish has kind of taken over my life but this post will be some of the manis I've done over the last few months (the ones I've photographed, anyway). It's kind of picture heavy, enjoy!

The wonderful Jacki at Adventures In Acetone did this look and I fell in love. I didn't have a matte red so I used China Glaze Salsa and Essie's Matte About You over it, followed by white tips dipped in flocking powder from Michaels.

While I never really cared for the look, I just had to try the fuzzy nail look. This was done using flocking powder I got from Michaels.

My first try at a Liquid Sand. OPI Stay the Night.

China Glaze Creative Fantasy (3 coats) topped with SOPI Sparkling Personality.

Dandy Nails Started Out with a Kiss (2 coats)

Dandy Nails Piece of Youth (2 coats)

China Glaze Adventure Red-y topped with Jade Vermelho Surreal over the pinky, China Glaze Some Like it Haute over the middle, and Dandy Nails Moonglow over the thumb.

China Glaze Purr-fect Plum on thumb and ring, China Glaze I Herd that on the pinky, Essie Sand Tropez as base on index and middle.

Jade Vermelho Surreal

Jade Vermelho Surreal with a round stud accent nail.

Super quick and super messy stamping during my lunch at work.

 Essie Recessionista

Essie Recessionista topped with Dandy Nails Wish it Away.

Dior Nirvana on ring, Butter London Bluey on the pinky, and Zoya Dove
as the base on the index and middle.

Dandy Nails Look Around topped with Dandy Nails Like Disco Lemonade.

Nails Inc Leather Effect in Soho Mews, loving this subtle texture a lot more than the sands, personally.

Hope you enjoyed the picture spam!

China Glaze LOL

Today's weather in California was nice and sunny and made me want to bust out with a holo on my nails. My favorite color is purple, in both every day things and nail polish. Mix that with holo? You've got pretty much one of my favorite shades ever. The pictures speak for themselves.

2 coats, no top coat, in direct sunlight.

This is one of those holos you have absolutely no trouble applying, some might be clumpy and/or streaky but this applies perfectly in 2 coats.

This is part of the very coveted OMG collection that was released in 2009 and is now discontinued, unfortunately making this very hard to find. If you're willing to pay the hefty price tag though you can still find them on places like eBay.

China Glaze Hunger Games Video Swatches (Capitol Colours)

This last weekend I got my hands on the new China Glaze collection inspired by "The Hunger Games". The collection is called "Capitol Colours" and it consists of 12 shades, each representing a district. I have done a video swatch in case you're curious as to how any of them apply. Picture swatches coming soon!

What I've been up to...

This is a post to show you guys what I've been up to. I've been throwing myself into the polish making world, following that popular trend right now. I just can't help it, I find it relaxing, like I'm creating some sort of art concoction by just mixing until I get things just right. I've decided to stop just messing around with it and actually start focusing more on "recipes", no more using real polish to mix and create "frankens", I've started only using base, pigments, and glitter, basically making it all my own as much as that could be said. Eventually, I hope to one day be able to maybe sell these in hopes that someone will love them as much as I do, but who knows. For now, they're just my pastime. Here are the polishes I've stirred up lately.

I haven't named any of them yet, that part always stumps me.

This one has a very visible purple shimmer on the nail in person, not so much in photo. 2 coats.

Shimmer shifts from green to gold

2 coats

2 coats on it's own, then 1 coat over black

2 coats on it's own

So what do you think? I'm trying to do a variety and not just stick to 1 type. Which is your favorite? Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Sandy

Minnie Mouse Nails

I don't share all of my YouTube videos on  here as well but every now and then one sticks out and I just have to show you here. I did Minnie Mouse inspired nails that I absolutely fell in love with and for the most part is was quite simple, it consisted of dotting, a little freehand art, and some 3D art.

Polishes I used:
CND Stickey Base Coat
Milani - Ready To Wear Red (Red base, french)
Hello Kitty - Red Sparkle (Over Red on Thumb)
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear - White On (Dotting)
Finger Paints - Black Expressionism (Black Ring Finger, Mouse Ears, lashes)
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure & Essie Sand Tropez - (Mouse Face)
Seche Vite Top Coat

I also did some 3D Nail Art on this using a bow mold that can be found on bornprettystore.com. I used liquid monomer and red nail art powder to create the bows along with the mold.

I love love this look!

If you'd like to see how I did this look feel free to check out my video.
